Course Description The course aims to introduce science to the astronomical alignments of buildings and their significance, Archeoastronomy. This is a well-established discipline whose importance has grown steadily when it is realized that it provides a frequently new and unexpected reading key to many monuments. After a propedeutic part of introduction to bare-eye astronomy, which includes the apparent movement of the sun and the stars and the key concept of precession, during the course the following topics are discussed: Megalithic architecture in the Mediterranean; Relationships between the built landscape and astronomy in Pre-Columbian America, The astronomical orientation in the Etruscan and Roman cities; Greek temples and Magna Greece, Architecture and astronomy in ancient Egypt. The course includes a practical introduction to the use of astronomical simulation software and their implementation in Google Earth.
