ID Code 054393
Course Title BUILDING TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES STUDIO
Course Type Integrated Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 12.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The course has two main goals. The first one is about design methodology and deals with understanding the relationship between architecture, functionality and the technological issues of a building. The second one is about knowledge of the construction techniques themselves and the criteria for their choice in different situations. As common techniques are gradually being replaced with more performance-oriented ones, students will be shown that technological design is often a creative activity, implying the ability to choose materials, putting them together, designing interface areas and so on. Innovations in the sector will be presented, in particular those that concern the shift from monolithic solutions to layered ones, and from massive to light, dry-assembled Structure / Envelope buildings. These relatively simple technologies apply to a wide range of buildings - from houses to more complex typologies - but innovative solutions for office buildings will be presented as well.
