Course Title NEW TECHNOLOGY FRONTIERS IN GAS PRODUCTION, TRANSPORTATION AND PROCESSING
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description Natural gas is unquestionably the dominant fuel of the 21st century, because of its abundance, environmental cleanliness, ease of use and compatibility with the needs of the transition towards renewables. Technology innovations have improved the feasibility and extended the range of the entire gas supply and delivery chain, from economic transportation across ever longer distances to innovative applications as a clean fuel. The course will cover (see detailed program) all key technical aspects in the gas production and transportation value chain, considering different topics as: key players, gas companies, gas supply and demand, gas production technologies, gas purification processes to meet gas grid or LNG production requirements, long-distance pipelines, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) chain, gas distribution networks, natural gas fuelled power plants, LNG or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as clean fuels in transportation, biogas as a "peculiar" natural gas. The course is based on lectures and on development and discussion of real-life case studies that will be solved also by intensively using process simulators and with the help of experts in the field.
