Course Description Historical hints of the nuclear technology and nuclear industry development, role of nuclear energy.Reactor physics concepts: fission chain reaction, basic nuclear properties of materials for reactor fuel -moderator -coolant.Pressurised Water Reactortechnology and main systems, structures and components.Other nuclear reactor technologies: Boiling Water Reactors, Gas Cooled Reactors, Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors,Liquid Metal Fast Reactors. Innovative reactors (Small Modular Reactors, Generation IV reactors).Nuclear fuel and fuel cycle: mining, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, spent fuel and radioactive waste management, fuel reprocessing.Nuclear system economics. Nuclear reactor safety: key principles and main safety systems.Basic thermal-hydraulicdesign and modelling(single phase, two phase flow) for nuclear reactorcomponents and systems(steam generator, pressurizer, core, containment, passive safety system).
