Course Description The course addresses the main automation problems encountered in production processes, giving the term "production process" both its most strict significance (and therefore dealing for example with automated assembly lines) and the broader sense it has at the company level, where it comprises several phases such as the design of a product, its actual production, distribution, and so forth. For apparent space and audience reasons, the focus will be set primarily on the first of the two significances above, but care is taken to induce in the students the idea that the conceptual methods employed are totally shared across the two. The course hence deals with the most important methods for logic control, which provide the mentioned conceptual basis together with the notions learnt in the "Fondamenti di Automatica" course, and provides a reasoned panorama of the presently employed technologies (sensors, actuators, control structures, PLC, DCS, distributed systems, etc.) together with the main regulations on the matter.
