Course Description Baseband Transmission: matched filter, intersymbol interference, Nyquist criterion for zero ISI, evaluation of error probability, amplitude modulation, on-off modulation, partial response systems, line coding, quantization, pulse code modulation (PCM). Passband Transmission: baseband equivalent of a passband system, quadrature amplitude modulation, phase shift keying modulation, multicarrier modulation. Transmission Channels: coaxial cable, twisted pair, optical fiber, radio. Multiple access: time division, frequency division, code division. Radio Systems: radio links, satellite, mobile radio, wireless networks. Elements of Information Theory and Coding: entropy, conditional entropy, information, capacity of the AWGN channel, examples of block codes, hard decision decoding, soft decision decoding.
