Course Description This subject aims at providing to the students the background on the procedures and modern statistical tools for assessing the reliability of devices (both electronic and not) and complex systems. In particular, the analytical and methodological approaches for the quality control, the rules for the design of experiments and the analysis of samplings for acceptance tests are also analyzed. Main topics: 1: Definitions of reliability - modes, mechanisms and causes of failure; 2: Operating conditions - Models of reliability prediction; 3: Non-parametric models for estimation of the survival function; 4: Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA); 5: Markov models; maintenability and condition based maintenance; 6: Techniques of digital signal processing in support of the signature analysis; 7: Availability; availability systems for power systems; 8: Data processing; 9: Statistical Quality Control: Sampling and operating curve;Design of experiment.
