Course Description Main goals of the course: 1. Gain a solid understanding of the dynamic physical phenomena behind the operation of conventional and advanced energy conversion systems. 2. Learn modelling techniques for the numerical simulation of energy conversion systems. 3. Study suitable simplified analytical models of the system dynamics for the design of control systems. 4. Understand the main control problems in conventional and advanced energy conversion systems and how they are solved. 5. Review recent research trends in advanced energy conversion system control. The course will cover the control of heat exchangers, gas and steam turbines, steam generators, coal-fired and combined-cycle power plants, parabolic trough and central receiver solar plants, supercritical CO2 systems and small-scale organic Rankine cycle systems for heat recovery in vehicles.
