Course Description The goal of the course is provide students with the basic skills and advanced methodologies for modeling and analyzing the performance of complex telecommunication systems like computer networks, telecommunications networks and distributed IT systems. The course covers main probabilistic models used in Communications Networks: Poisson Point Processes, Elements of Renewal Theory, Markov Chains and Processes, Traffic models, and Queueing Theory. It also provides instruments for network analysis and simulation. The course includes some topics that are taught using the flipped classroom approach. In addition, students will be introduced to the use of an open-source simulator to study the behavior of computer networks.
