Course Description The course provides the basis of physics to model and design electrochemical energy devices, including thermodynamics of electrochemical cells, kinetics of electrochemical reactions, transport phenomena in electrolytes and porous electrodes, measurement and diagnostic techniques. Then, after a technological assessment, the features of the following conversion and storage devices for automotive and stationary applications are analysed in depth through experimental activities and physical modelling, focusing on transport phenomena: batteries with aqueous and non aqueous electrolyte, flow batteries, polymer electrolyte fuel cell, solid oxide fuel cell, water electrolyser.
