Course Title METHODS FOR VIRTUAL PROTOTYPING
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 6.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The course provides knowledge on the most recent methods to create virtual prototypes of industrial products, and their use in the design, validation and maintenance in the product life cycle, and also knowledge on the most innovative technologies to support the development of virtual prototypes. The course includes topics related to the methodologies based on the use of virtual prototypes to validate aesthetic, functional and ergonomic aspects of products. The students will learn about the state-of-the-art technologies of Virtual and Augmented Reality for realistic real-time 3D visualization, for tracking, for multimodal interaction, for rapid prototyping. They will also learn techniques for functional simulation and for the integrated use of the virtual humans with virtual prototypes. The course also includes activities performed in the laboratory that will be carried out individually or in groups, using state-of-the-art technologies for virtual prototyping. Synthesis of the subjects Theoretical introduction. Techniques for geometric modeling of the product. Principles of Computer Graphics. Virtu-al/Augmented/Mixed Reality. Technologies for virtual prototyping. Representation techniques. Tracking techniques. Techniques for 3D sound rendering. Virtual humans. Simulation. Reverse Engineering. Rapid Prototyping.
