Course Description The course "Economics and Computation" provides mathematical and algorithmic tools to deal with strategic-interaction situations. It mainly includes two classes of problems: algorithmic game theory and algorithmic mechanism design. Algorithmic game theory studies algorithmic tools to solve non-cooperative games. The course focuses on some solution concepts (maxmin, Nash, Stackelberg equilibrium) and provides, for every solution concept, the appropriate algorithms to solve real-world problems. Algorithmic mechanism design studies algorithms to design economic mechanisms (e.g., auctions). The course focuses on different set of properties a mechanism can satisfy, and for every set it provides the appropriate algorithmic mechanism.
