Course Description Photophysics of semiconductors: interaction of an electromagnetic field with a semiconductor. Bulk semiconductors and Quantum Wells. Advanced semiconductor lasers: Distributed Feedback Lasers (DFB) e Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSEL). Fiber optical amplifiers and Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers. Inorganic and organic Light Emitting Diodes (LED). Liquid crystals. Photon detectors: photoconductive detectors, p-i-n and avalanche detectors, CCD and CMOS. Fundamentals of quantum optics: electromagnetic field quantization; quantum computing, quantum cryptography.
