Course Description This course provides an introductory overview on the basic principles of quantum optics and quantum technologies. The topics discussed are the following. The quantization of the electromagnetic field. Relevant quantum states of light. Full-quantum description of light-matter interaction. Entanglement and Bell's Inequality. Quantum cryptography. Quantum computing. Optical Bloch equations. Force on two-level atoms. Optical cooling and trapping of atoms and molecules. Photon recoil and Doppler cooling. Optical molasses. Sub-Doppler cooling.
