Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The course aims to make students understand how the automation and digital technologies (e.g. Industry 4.0) are effecting the future manufacturing systems, both in the process industry and in the discrete manufacturing systems. The students will learn how to select the best technology and the best application scenario by analysing the context in which a manufacturing company is operating. The students will apply the knowledge gathered from the lectures and industrial cases to manufacturing systems. Indeed, designing a manufacturing system is a complex process which requires to deal with the hard, soft and organisational dimensions of the system. The impact evaluation will also be investigated in order to give students the know-how on how to understand the impact of their decisions. Among the topics that are going to be tackled there are: Industry 4.0 technologies, Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), Flexible Assembly Systems (FAS), and the production planning and control.
