Course Title ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The low-volume production of parts with highly complex geometries has long been regarded as an economically unfeasible task with traditional manufacturing processes. Such belief is now changing due to the introduction of Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes, often referred to with the collective term of 3D Printing. After having used for more than two decades to streamline product development cycles through the rapid fabrication of prototypes and tools, these processes are increasingly being adopted for the direct manufacture of one-off, personalized or mass-customized products in many industrial sectors. This course will provide an introduction to the AM processes and their applications, discussing their technical and business-oriented implications for designers, engineers, "makers" and other possible users of this advanced manufacturing technology.
