Course Description Just like Fashion, Industrial Design has often been described as a cultural phenomenon, as a driver for economic development and as an important part of the most iconic Italian look. This is firstly due to the work of fashion designers, industrial designers, craftsmen and company managers, and secondly to products themselves - or else- to the look of fashionable products. In fact sociological considerations further confirm that the boundaries between fashion and design industry are actually thin and, sometimes, non-existent: the great number of so-called objects for the self, portable or wearable, is closely linked to the world ofself-related products (such as food, cosmetics, household objects, means of transport, ...), since these sectors appear to be influenced by the same consumption processes. Clothing and living environments, in fact, belong to areas influenced by the phenomenon of aestheticization of consumption, an expression used to describe the current search for products and purchase occasions in which symbolic factors, intangible and emotional components are amplified, in order to engage and meet the complex sphere of the senses. The Course will be composed of ex cathedra lectures to outline a history of design and fashion with a focus on the Italian experience. Specific investigations will be carried out through visits to exhibitions and key sites in Milan, such as the Monumental Cemetery, Villa Necchi, the furnishing museum, the Triennale Design Museum, the Salone del Mobile, in order to contextualize the foreign student's experience in the world of Design and Fashion in Milan.
